SCHC Radiology Department offers
radiology services from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday. We are
also available for emergent care after hours. All technologists
are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
(ARRT) and by the state of Kansas.
In House Services:
X-ray uses high energy photons to penetrate through various anatomy to create a visible image on film. X-rays are often taken to determine if a bone is broken. X-rays are also used to detect any pathologies present in the chest, abdomen, or other parts of the body.
Computed Tomography, or CT, uses high energy photons rotated around the body in a circular motion to create cross-sectional images. CT can be done without or with oral or IV contrast to highlight different organs or vessels in the body. CT is used to evaluate the brain, chest, abdomen, or pelvis. Spine and extremity imaging is also available through CT.
General Ultrasound, or sono, uses sound waves to penetrate the body and reflect back to create an image. General ultrasound includes a close look at the organs within the abdomen and pelvis. It is also used for viewing fetal development and breast, thyroid, or testicular anatomy.
These services are available M-F 8am-5pm.
X-ray and CT are available after hours
for emergencies.
Mobile Services: Mobile services come directly to our facility.
Cardiac Ultrasound, or echocardiography (Echo), also uses sound waves to create a detailed picture of the heart. It also looks at the function of the valves and chambers of the heart.
Vascular Ultrasound takes a close look at the arteries and veins using sound waves. It is used to check for blood clots, narrowing of the vessels, or widening of the vessels (aneurysms). Direction and speed of blood flow can also be determined using doppler.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, uses a large magnet that interacts with water molecules within the body and sends a signal to a computer to be reconstructed into an image. The body is placed within the bore of the magnet. MRI is a great non-invasive way to view the nervous system and musculoskeletal structures within the body.
Mammography is an x-ray of the breast. It is used to screen for breast cancer in its early stages.
Bone Density, or DEXA, measures the density of bones using low dose x-rays. It is a popular exam used to check for osteoporosis.
Nuclear Medicine, or nuc med, uses radioisotopes that are injected into the body. The radioisotopes are processed by the body and emit gamma x-rays that are detected by a special camera. Nuc med is used to image the organ of interest and evaluate the function of that organ.
Echo/vascular sono – every Wednesday Mammography – once a month
Nuc Med – every other Wednesday Bone Density – once a month
MRI – every Thursday
***Work in Progress***
We are currently raising money and applying for grants to purchase new medical diagnostic imaging equipment for the radiology department.
